What’s the first thing that comes to mind if I were to ask you “What is your favorite thing to do? What do you live for? What gives you that indescribable feeling of thrill and adventure deep down?”
For me, the answer is Horses.
Horses for me was never “Just a hobby.” Horses and riding runs in my blood, I can feel it in my heart anytime someone says the words “Horses” or “Saddle” or “boots.” I don’t own a horse. Much to my dismay, I don’t ride now nearly as much as I once did, due to crazy schedules.
Yet horses are a huge part of me, and I thought It necessary to include a section about it here on the “My Passions” page. Though I cannot remember the very first time I was on a horse, I do know that I’ve been riding for about 8 years now. I never got into showing or jumping, which is more of the highly competitive and blingy side of horsemanship, I was always more of a western riding for fun kinda gal, choosing a wide open field and comfortable saddle (let’s be honest, feeling like I was in Bonanza wasn’t such a bad thing either) over hours in an inside arena being yelled at by a coach because I missed a jump.
When I was little, my dream was to run out west and be a cowgirl. (Well, cowboy really. The word cowgirl implies too much pink and sparkly things…I don’t do pink and sparkly.) Quite honestly, that is still one of my dreams. I can still feel it in my soul when I think of fulfilling my dream.
The Great Outdoors and traveling:
My love for the outdoors and camping really started when I was 6, and first attended summer camp…
The word “camp” has been common in my house all my life. My oldest sister attended camp and when I was 6 it was finally my turn! I fell in love immediately, not missing a summer since. Of course, I’m older now. I went through an intense leadership program when I was 16, and am now on staff.
I’ve always had a sense of adventure, yet it’s only in the last few years that I’ve been brave enough to explore it. I suppose you could say I’m a bit of a free spirit, I like to go where I like, when I like. My heart beats faster at the mere thought of hiking a mountain or blazing a trail. I long to constantly have my lungs filled with fresh air and my heart full of joy that only time in the outdoors can bring.
So, perhaps it is a stretch to say the red lipstick specifically is a “passion.” But it represents a different side of me, a side I wanted to be known. I adore getting dirty while mucking out horse stalls or riding, I don’t mind camping and being on the trail, going a week without a real shower.
Yet, when the time is right, I love bringing out the classic lipstick, cute sweaters, and boots.
